Ray Lucas got the spot start for the Dodgers. He didn't last long, just 3.2 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned). The bullpen was also attacked pretty hard; Harry Smythe gave up 3 runs in 2.1 innings, and Tom Zachary gave up 3 (2 earned) in 2 innings. This was a classic showcase of why the Dodgers did not win the pennant this year - pitching just wasn't up to snuff.
Johnny Frederick had a 3-hit game for Brooklyn to move his average up to a respectable .287. Lonny Frey had 2 hits before he was pulled from the game after this one got out of reach. The Dodgers are now a game under .500 at 75-76 with 3 games left in the season.
