Mungo goes the distance again in win vs. Reds

Van Mungo picked up his 11th win of the season in a complete game win today at Ebbets Field against the Reds.  With the win, Mungo is now tied for 2nd place for most wins in the National League.  His 2.61 ERA is 4th best in the league.  Today he allowed just 7 scattered hits and 1 earned run, plus he struck out 7 in a fine effort.

The Dodgers had 13 hits for the game, including 3-hit efforts by Danny Taylor and Hack Wilson.  The Dodgers were able to get to Reds' starter Tony Freitas with 10 hits and 4 walks over 6 innings.  They left 13 on base and therefore could have scored more runs. 

The Dodgers got off to an early lead, scoring 1 in the 2nd inning.  Tony Cuccinello led off with a double, followed by a base hit + error off the bat of Joe Stripp.  The Dodgers scored again in the 4th.  After an out was recorded, Ray Berres singled, then Van Mungo singled.  Len Koenecke then hit into a force which scored 1.  The Reds scored their lone run in the 5th.  Chick Hafey doubled, then Harlin Pool singled to put them at the corners.  Ernie Lombardi hit into a double play which scored a run.  The Dodgers would respond in the bottom of the 5th.  Danny Taylor singled, then Hack Wilson Walked.  Sam Leslie grounded out, runners advanced.  Tony Cuccinello walked, then Joe Stripp singled one home.  The Dodgers would add a run in the 8th.
