Bill Lee stymies Dodgers

He's been one of the top pitchers all season long and in today game he showed how he gets it done; Bill Lee pitched a complete game in the Cubs 2-1 win over the Dodgers.  It was a white knuckle ride all game for both teams as neither team led by more than 1.  The Dodgers were the first to score; they plated a run in the 2nd inning.  But Chicago answered with 2 in the 3rd inning, and no one scored after that.  Bill Lee was just a bit better than Brooklyn starter Dutch Leonard in the game.

Dutch Leonard also pitched a complete game, but he gets the loss despite allowing just 4 hits.  The Woody English 2-out, 2-RBI single in the 3rd was the difference.  The Cubs left just 3 batters on base compared to the Dodgers' 9.  In a sense, Chicago just got a bit luckier than the Dodgers today.

With the strong performance today, Bill Lee ranks tied for 4th in wins and is 3rd in the league with a 2.65 ERA.
