Pirates pummel Dodgers, 14-4

The Pirates scored 8 runs in the 1st inning and chased Dodgers starter Johnny Babich, finishing the game with a 14-4 win.  The Pirates came to play today; they pounded out 19 hits and were 12-for-22 with runners in scoring position.  The Pirates made minced meat out of Johnny Babich, but also touched the Dodgers bullpen.  The Pirates were doing everything right as it seemed hit seem to follow hit.

The Pirates scored big in the opening inning.  Lloyd Waner led off with a walk.  After an out was recorded, Arky Vaughan walked, then Gus Suhr singled, plating 1 run.  Pie Traynor then singled, plating another.  Catcher Tom Padden doubled, scoring 2, then Tommy Thevenow singled and reached 2nd on the error.  Waite Hoyt hit a sac fly.  Lloyd Waner, up to bat for the second time in the inning, doubled, plating one.  Then Paul Waner doubled.

"Pittsburgh has been very impressive this year," Manager Williams said.
