The Dodgers started off their scoring in the 1st inning, after Danny Taylor tripled in a run. They scored again in the second. Al Lopez doubled to start off the inning, then Jimmy Jordan popped out, followed by Jim Bucher singling home the run. Things were quiet after that for a while, but the Cardinals accomplished the improbable in the 7th.
In the bottom of the 7th, catcher Bill Delancey struck out, then Joe Medwick grounded out. But Burgess Whithead singled, then Pat Crawford doubled. Outfielder Chick Fullis singled both runs in, tying the game. Jim Mooney walked, then Pepper Martin singled home Fullis. They were not done. Jack Rothrock hit a crucial double, plating 2 more runs. Ripper Collins tripled him home for run number 6. It was an astonishing turn of events that made Manager Williams apoplectic.
"I could hardly believe my eyes watching this game slip away from us," Williams said. "I'm so thrilled to hop on the plane and head back home. We're coming home battered. Let's not make this a long season."
