Mungo shuts out Phillies to complete 2-game sweep

Van Mungo went the distance in today's 6-0 win over Philadelphia at Ebbets Field; he racked up 11 strikeouts in the effort.  Mungo, who had struggled in the beginning of the season, has seemed to find his groove recently, pitching his 3rd complete game in a row.  The win gives the Dodgers a much-needed sweep that has propelled them into 7th place.  Sam Leslie was the hitting star for Brooklyn.  He was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's.

The Phillies scattered 8 hits in the game.  They left the bases loaded in the 2nd inning.  But really, Mungo had his screwball dancing in this one.  He was dominant throughout.

The Dodgers scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning - off an Al Lopez home run.  Brooklyn scored 4 runs in the 8th inning.  Frenchy Bordagaray led things off with a single, then stole 2nd.  After Van Mungo grounded out, Buzz Boyle struck out, then hot hitting Joe Stripp was intentionally walked.  Len Koenecke then laced a single to score one.  Then Sam Leslie hit a bases clearing triple.

It's finally nice to see the Dodgers playing well.
